For fiscal year 2017, Arts Society Memberships provided $34,262.12 in funding to support the Arts at Missouri Western, and a total of $33,584 was provided in allocations for equipment and programs that benefit arts students for the 2017-18 academic year:
Department of Art
Eight grants totaling $7,463 were awarded to five professors in the Department of Art. The funding covers a keynote speaker and a guest artist, a kiln controller and slab roller for ceramics, student admission costs to the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art for one year, digital SLR cameras, a photography field trip and student trips to the Kansas City Crossroads Arts District for three First Friday events.
Department of Music
For the Department of Music, five faculty members received funding for eight projects totaling $9,502. The Arts Society funded a classroom set of melodicas, a small wind-powered keyboard; Chamber Singers special attire; clinicians; guests artists and a commission of a music piece to perform at the Missouri Music Educators Conference. A special performance of the “Faure Requiem” featuring MWSU Orchestra, choirs and faculty was also funded.
Department of Theatre, Cinema and Dance
The Department of Theatre, Cinema and Dance received $16,619 in allocations for the current academic year. Equipment fully or partially funded includes dance studio mirrors, HD video cameras, microphones, a Marley dance floor and a lighting upgrade. The funds also paid for a props workshop; a film wardrobe workshop and a trip to the Kansas City Actors’ Theatre production of “King Lear.”
